CSM Thomas J. Clark

Command Sergeant Major Thomas J. Clark joined the Army in June 1980. He completed Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and Advanced Individual Training at Sheppard Air Force Base, TX for Communications (36D) Antenna Installation Specialist.
His assignments have taken him to the 257 Signal Company, Camp Humphreys Korea (antenna installer specialist); Fort Hood, TX (team chief, instructor and section sergeant); 278th Signal Company; 57th Signal Battalion, in Fort McPherson GA (special security for the commanding general of FORSCOM); Fort Hood, TX, Charlie Company, 16th Signal Battalion, (Platoon Sergeant and later as the operations sergeant); Garlstadt GE, (Platoon Sergeant 2nd Armor Division Forward); Fort Hood, TX (First Sergeant Charlie Company, 57th Signal Battalion); 3rd Signal Brigade, in Kitzingen, GE (First Sergeant 17th Signal Battalion); Fort Gordon, Georgia (Chief Career Manager CMF 31 for the Office of the Chief of Signal); at the 51st Signal Battalion and Command Sergeant Major of the 440th Signal Battalion during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
CSM Clark was assigned was as the 22nd Signal Brigade Command Sergeant Major where he deployed again in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom IV as the Task Force Adler, (Signal) Command Sergeant Major. After successful completion of this mission, he was then assigned as the 15th Regimental Signal Brigade CSM. On 26 October 2007, he began his distinguished career assignment as the 20th Signal Regimental and Fort Gordon Command Sergeant Major.
His military and civilian education includes USASMA Class 50, USASMA First Sergeants Course, ANCOC for CMF 31 at Fort Gordon, the Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course, III Corps Army Noncommissioned Officer Academy, Battlefield Spectrum Management, MSE System Planner/System Control Center Operator, Battle Staff Noncommissioned Officer Course and the Air Assault School. He has a bachelors of Science degree from Excelsior College where he graduated with honors.
His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (1OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (1OLC), Army Commendation Medal (14OLC), Army Achievement Medal (6OLC), Military Outstanding Volunteer Medal, Good Conduct Medal (seventh award), National Defense Service Medal (w/Star), Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Development Ribbon (4), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3), the Signal Corps Regimental Association Silver Order of Mercury, the 22nd Signal Brigade Combat Patch, the Air Assault and Combat Action Badges.
Command Sergeant Major Clark is an active member of both the Sergeant Audie Murphy (since 1987) and Sergeant Morales Clubs (since 1993) - he has served as the president of the SAMC club at Fort Hood and as president of the SMC in Garlstadt Germany.
CSM Clark is joined on this assignment by his wife, Janice, who has been awarded the V Corps Heart of Victory award, the Signal Corps Silver Watatchee Award, and the Doctor Mary Walker Award. All three are the highest of their kind for outstanding volunteerism and support of the Army and its extended families. They have two children (Thomas (23) - a civilian contractor for the Airforce) (Crystal (22) - who graduated from JMU) and one grandchild Thomas Ray.
