Prerequisites: The pre-requisite for attending the Signal Officers Preparatory Course is selection to attend the CGSOC. Officers selected to attend the preparation course will receive orders from HRC and a welcome packet from Fort Gordon and/or the senior Signal representative at the CGSC. Students are required to sign up for and complete the 40 hours Information Assurance Fundamentals Training on line course located https://ia.signal.army.mil/default.asp hosted by the Information Assurance Training Center at Fort Gordon, Georgia.

PURPOSE:

The Signal Officer Preparatory Course is a 5-day course designed to ensure Signal officers have the requisite knowledge for future Signal assignments simultaneously allowing for a broadening of their opportunities through the elective courses offered after the CGSOC Common Core Curriculum and Advanced Operations Courses.

COURSE SCOPE:

Scope of the course at the Intermediate Level Education (ILE) at the resident Command and General Staff College (CGSC) includes 40 hours of instruction on the challenges of the home station work environment as well as the deployed operational environment. The course is built around a series of guest speakers, who are considered Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in their respective areas with many being in 06-level CSL duty positions. The topics of discussions they lead span a broad range of Signal competencies and are designed to expose the students to the most relevant issues they will encounter at their next duty assignment, such as signal disciplines, roles and responsibilities of the S6, emerging doctrine on signal support, roles, functions and organization of signal agencies and units; network operations duties and responsibilities, signal lessons learned, and signal system capabilities and limitations.
