BG Robert L. Edmonson is the 38th Chief of Signal and Commandant of the U.S. Army Signal School in the U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence at Fort Gordon, Georgia.
BG Robert L. Edmonson, II was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant from Frostburg State University in Maryland, holds a Masters Degree in Information Resource Management from Central Michigan University and a Masters Degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College, Washington DC.
BG Edmonson began his Army career in 1991 as an Infantry Officer where he served as a Rifle Platoon Leader in the 101st Airborne Division (AASLT), Fort Campbell, Kentucky. In 1993, he wasbranch-transferred to the Signal Corps and reassigned to the 101st where he served as a Signal Platoon Leader and Assistant S-3 in the 501st Signal Battalion. After completing the Signal Officer’s Advanced Course, BG Edmonson was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he served as an Infantry Brigade Signal Officer, Division Radio Officer, and Commander Alpha Company, 82nd Signal Battalion. In 2000, BG Edmonson was selected to serve as a member of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff - Internship Program, Joint Staff, J-6 and the Army Staff, CIO/G-6. After completing the Command and General Staff College, BG Edmonson was reassigned to the 82nd Airborne Division where he served again as an Infantry Brigade Signal Officer and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. From 2004 to 2006, BG Edmonson served as the Deputy G-6, 82nd Airborne Division and Battalion Executive Officer, 82nd Signal Battalion. While serving as an Action Officer, Joint Staff J-6, he was selected to command the 63rd Expeditionary Signal Battalion. Following Battalion Command, he deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan where he served as a Senior Military Advisor within the Ministry of the Interior. Following the War College, BG Edmonson served as the CIO/G-6 and Director, Army Signal Activity, US Army Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM). From 2013 to 2015, BG Edmonson commanded the 35th Signal Brigade, XVIII Airborne Corps. Most recently he served as Executive Officer to the Army CIO/G-6.
