CSM Travis Cherry
Command Sergeant Major Cherry serves as the Command Sergeant Major of the U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence and Fort Gordon, Fort Gordon, Georgia. He is the senior enlisted advisor to the Cyber CoE Commanding General and staff. He provides enlisted perspective on care and welfare of the enlisted force, personnel management, leader development, training, and readiness of the command. CSM Cherry also creates awareness and provides guidance on the commander’s theater strategic objectives.
CSM Cherry was born and raised in Houston, Texas. His military career began at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, where he attended Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gordon, Georgia, to become a 31K, Combat Communicator. CSM Cherry has demonstrated personal commitment to the Army and his Soldiers as he advanced to positions of higher responsibility. He also served over six years overseas, deploying to Republic of Korea (ROK) in support for the ROK Army, Saudi Arabia in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm (DS/DS), and later to Iraq and Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). Throughout his military career, he served in key leadership positions and held a variety of staff positions, culminating in his current assignment as the Cyber CoE Command Sergeant Major. His other positions consist of Squad and Section Leader, Team Chief, Training Noncommissioned Officers, and Drill Instructor. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from National Louis University and his Master’s Degree in Business from University of Phoenix in June 2012.
